Last Saturday my wife and I went on a day trip to Maryland. This was a previously planned trip which was postponed once due to bad weather. So the expectation from the day was high. After a two-hour drive, we arrived US Naval Academy sometime before noon.

The scenic campus is located off the bank of Severn River in Annapolis and drains to Chesapeake Bay. Just sitting by the river and watching the waves and hundreds of boats play is in itself worthy of anyone’s trip here.

Upon entering the campus, we were immediately consumed by the sensation that we definitely entered a military college campus. Campus was neatly organized and cleaned. The environment felt different than a regular college campus.

We walked around the campus and noticed that all buildings were in the same type of design and look from outside.

We saw many statues of great military leaders on campus. And some muscular guys were walking around in uniform and some were in casual dresses, probably students.

As we walked around the campus, we came to be around the central church and saw a newly married couple photo shooting with their friends and family.

We concluded our naval campus tour and moved on to the city, Annapolis, Maryland state capital.

Annapolis is a city with historical significance. The city holds a lot of memories from the early times of the United States. It’s a nice looking city with a small town feeling.

We entered the Maryland State House and found ourselves in a century old building with artifacts from Washington, Jefferson and others prominent figures from that time.

We visited the Senate and House chambers where current lawmakers make laws for the state as well as the old Senate and House chambers beautifully preserved. Once inside, it’s hard to believe that modern day Maryland government actually sits in that building looked and felt so mediocre.

Our city tour continued and we joined thousands of other tourists wandering around everywhere in the city.

We decided to cut short our city tour and go to a place with less people and more of nature. After a short drive, we arrived Sandy Point State Park. Unlike many other state parks, this park faces the Chesapeake bay and has a beach.

The park entry was free that day and the weather was warm and sunny, together made a perfect gateway for people who wanted to escape the city.

Thousands of people were scattered across the park but mostly on the beach. We weren’t prepared for the beach so we hiked a short trail and mostly sat on the large concrete blocks by the beach and just watched everything. People were fishing, playing, cooking, sun bathing, swimming, and whatever else they liked doing on the beach.

We thought we had had enough by then and decided to drive around Baltimore and call the day after dinner. My wife had been waiting on a trip to anywhere south of Pennsylvania and have a meal in Nandos Peri Peri restaurant for long time. There aren’t any Nandos in Pennsylvania. So this was her dinner. We ate Peri Peri chicken and Portuguese rice. I forgot to take pictures because with a hungry stomach nothing else was in my mind. We finished our dinner and drove back home with a satisfied mind and gut.
