Coronavirus and Us

Coronavirus which started infecting in Wuhan China now has worldwide free roaming coverage and providing viral services to a large number of people. And it’s expanding rapidly.

Briefly the situation in the USA where I live is this- so far more than 1600 people are infected with this virus including 41 in Pennsylvania as of this writing. Forty one people are dead. The numbers may not sound much but hundreds of new cases are being added each day. This is only the beginning.

We’re told to stock up household supplies for 30 days in case there’s an emergency lockdown like the one in Italy. I’ve been looking for hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc. but no store has them not even Amazon. Although I was able buy some overpriced masks from Amazon. People are in panic and they’re buying everything they can, making their home a warehouse of things.

At work, a lot of preparation is going on. We may have to work from home or just stay home in coming weeks. Everyone is told to prepare for that. Already some offices are closed indefinitely and large gatherings, movies, concerts, malls, etc. are restricted. All schools are closed for two weeks. A lot of meetings, trainings, work-related traveling are being cancelled.

It seems that we’re preparing for an apocalypse. The end is near. No, it’s not.

There are state of emergencies in various states affected by this virus. Now there’s a national emergency. Washington, New York, and California are badly hit by the virus. Luckily no one in my town are found to have this virus yet but that’ll change soon. So far all 41 cases of Coronavirus in Pennsylvania are in the eastern part of the state bordering New York and New Jersey, around 100 miles east of my home.

I stocked up my pantry with supplies from kitchen to bathroom essentials. Also bought are dry food items and extra bag of rice. But if there’s a lockdown, I may run out of veggies and meats. Let’s hope we never get to that point.
